A Gantry Crane (also called a Goliath crane) is a type of overhead crane with a Single or Double Girder installation that has separate legs that rotate on wheels or on a railway system or along tracks. They are generally considered when there is a reason for not including an overhead runway system.Gantry cranes are mostly used for outdoor applications or under overhead crane systems. Unlike overhead cranes, this type of crane does not need to be attached to the building's support structure - eliminating the need for stationary runway beams and support columns. In some cases, this can lead to a significant reduction in material costs and be a more advantageous solution than similarly specified overhead cranes.
